Bourbon’s Trailblazing Move into Namibia’s Offshore Drilling

French maritime company Bourbon has secured a significant logistics contract to facilitate offshore exploration drilling in Namibia. This strategic venture highlights its leading role in global maritime logistics, particularly in the burgeoning Namibian oil sector.

A Comprehensive Logistics Approach

The contract, awarded by a leading but unnamed oil and gas company, involves supporting the exploration of a first well off southern Namibia. This comprehensive endeavor includes managing the entire supply chain from international shipment and customs clearance to handling and warehousing at the logistics base in Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Utilizing Local Expertise

The operation is notably employing nearly 50 local Namibians, emphasizing Bourbon’s commitment to fostering regional expertise. The logistics base, sprawling over seven hectares, is poised to become a hub for offshore operations, with staff receiving specialized training in material handling.

Data-Driven Efficiency

To ensure seamless operation, Bourbon is leveraging its proprietary Bourbon Logistics Suite software. This tool provides end-to-end visibility and control over logistics operations, ensuring timely and safe delivery of services.

Fleet and Equipment Support

Integral to this operation are three platform supply vessels: the Bourbon Diamond, Bourbon Ruby, and Bourbon Topaz. These vessels are crucial for transporting materials and supporting drilling activities, demonstrating Bourbon’s extensive marine capabilities.

Namibia: A Growing Offshore Hub

Bourbon’s involvement comes as Namibia’s offshore potential continues to attract global interest, with other notable companies like Rhino Resources and TotalEnergies initiating exploration projects in the region. These developments underscore the strategic importance of Namibia as an emerging player in the oil exploration arena.

Expert Insight

Nicolas Chateau, Managing Director of Bourbon Logistics, remarked, “This new contract reinforces Bourbon Logistics’ credentials in providing comprehensive services to top-tier oil and gas operators, aiding them in their significant exploration projects.”

Looking Forward

Bourbon’s venture into Namibia marks a pivotal expansion of their operations in Africa, potentially setting a precedent for future contracts in the region. As Namibia’s exploration activities surge, Bourbon’s role in facilitating these operations positions them at the forefront of the logistics support sector.
