Weller Millennium Bourbon A Unique and Exquisite Whiskey Experience

Discover the Unique Weller Millennium Bourbon

Few bourbon fans would be surprised to see a Weller expression listed among their favorites. Now, there’s a new contender from the iconic brand: Weller Millennium bourbon. This ultra-aged bourbon is set to make waves in the whiskey community, offering a distinct and memorable drinking experience.

The Rich History of Weller Millennium Bourbon

Weller is often compared to its prestigious brother, Pappy Van Winkle. Named after William Larue Weller, a 19th-century Kentucky distiller who revolutionized bourbon by using wheat instead of rye, the Weller brand has a storied past. Initially created by Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company, the brand has been owned by Sazerac since 1999 and is currently produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery.

A Unique Blend of Bourbon and Wheat Whisky

The Weller Millennium bourbon is a blend of bourbon and wheat whisky distilled in 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2006. With a proof of 99 as a nod to the turn of the millennium in 1999, this expression showcases the ideal balance Buffalo Trace Distillery strives to achieve.

Commitment to Innovation at Buffalo Trace Distillery

“We’ve decided that we’re going to continue to explore options with Weller,” Buffalo Trace Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley said at a media tasting. The new Weller Millennium bourbon signifies an extension of the experimental program, showcasing how wheat can perform as an ultra-aged spirit.

Wheatley highlights that they often hold back small lots of barrels to continue aging beyond typical brand standards. This patience allows for creating exceptional and well-balanced whiskies, exemplified by the Weller Millennium bourbon.

A Complex and Mature Whiskey

Weller Millennium bourbon stands out from other Weller expressions while maintaining the brand’s core attributes. Expect a complex and mature whiskey, featuring a smooth and sweet profile. The nose offers hints of toffee and rich caramel, complemented by dried fruit and sweet caramel on the palate. The oak presence is unmistakable throughout every sip, making this whiskey a true delight.

Exclusive and Luxurious Presentation

As you might expect, obtaining a bottle of Weller Millennium bourbon will be both difficult and expensive. Buffalo Trace plans to distribute it in limited quantities in the United States and globally. The whiskey is packaged in a crystal decanter with a custom-made crystal topper, hand-etched with W.L. Weller’s “W” stamp of quality, and it comes in an illuminated display case. The price? A staggering $7500.

The Future of Weller Expressions

Despite the exclusivity, Buffalo Trace Distillery assures that this won’t be the last experimental whiskey from the Weller brand. According to Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director, “We think wheat is a magnificent ingredient that brings unique character, depth, and approachability to the tasting experience.”

At Buffalo Trace, they honor tradition while embracing change, continually investing in creating more whiskey to meet demand. The Weller Millennium bourbon exemplifies this commitment and innovation.
