Triple Cask Aged Bourbon Discovery: Heaven's Door Innovations

Discover the Magic of Triple Cask Aged Bourbon

Bob Dylan’s new Tennessee bourbon soaks in both French oak and Apple brandy barrels to create a masterpiece. This new triple cask aged bourbon from Heaven’s Door is not just a drink; it’s an experience. With innovative finishing methods, the flavors come alive, offering a unique tasting journey for whiskey enthusiasts.

Introducing the Heaven’s Door Exploration Series

Heaven’s Door has unveiled the inaugural expression in its new Exploration Series. This isn’t just any whiskey line; it’s specifically designed to push the boundaries of flavor with unique blends and finishes. By playing with new techniques, Heaven’s Door aims to release two distinct bottles in this series each year. These bottles are crafted with precision, ensuring each blend presents refreshing and innovative flavors.

Triple Cask Aging Process

The creation of the debut spirit in this series is a tale of meticulous craftsmanship. Master Distiller Ken Pierce and Master Blender Alex Moore began with Heaven’s Door straight bourbon whiskey aged for at least five years. This revered bourbon was then finished with a French twist, making it a triple cask aged bourbon.

  • First, they sourced casks from Normandy that had soaked in Calvados apple brandy for two years.
  • These barrels were emptied and refilled with the 5-year-old straight bourbon.
  • Toasted French oak staves, browned to a medium-heavy level, were added to these barrels.

This aging process allowed the bourbon to soak in the essence of both the French oak and Calvados barrels, creating a unique double-French combo.

Tasting Notes: What to Expect

The Heaven’s Door Exploration Series I Calvados Finish whiskey is a sensory delight. The notes you’ll encounter include:

  • Sweet cider and baked caramel apple from the Calvados
  • Baking notes like butter croissants, oak, and brown sugar from the toasted French oak staves

According to Master Blender Alex Moore, the medium-heavy toasted French oak staves contribute to balanced complexity and enhanced aroma. The result is a dark-colored, smoother, and creamier mouthfeel, providing a truly enriched flavor experience.

Exquisite Yet Smooth

Despite being bottled at a potent 54% ABV, the Heaven’s Door Exploration Series I Calvados Cask Finish Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey remains remarkably smooth. Even with its strength, it has minimal heat on the throat, making it not only sumptuous but also surprisingly gentle.
